Summary : Following an introduction to a lecture delivered on hypertension management by an international speaker, a single paper was singled out from his slides and the evidence for lowering incidental hypertension in people with no initial metabolic vascular risk factors debated.

The people with higher titre could be the one's who had a higher likelihood of caring for other features of their health and not just BP?

: People were excluded !
(i) if they had prior history of hypertension before study inclusion
(hypertension diagnosis or prescription of BP-lowering medication)
(ii) If they had prior history of any of the cardiovascular diseases used as study endpoints
(iii) Follow-up of less than six months since the third BP-measure.
Individuals eligible for study inclusion were eighteen years or older, and registered with their practices for at least one year.
[11/5, 9:04 PM] Rakesh Biswas: Unlikely that 5000 people would die of cardiovascular events within a few months of being diagnosed as hypertension without having any cardiovascular risks? Was that missed? The study is just based on retrospective EMR analysis and I wouldn't be surprised if it was missed

■ Based on the current frequency of measurement of blood pressure this study suggests that few newly hypertensive patients sustained a complete, year round on target BP over time.
■ The inverse associations between a higher TITRE and lower risk of incident cardiovascular diseases were independent of widely used blood pressure
' control’ indicators.
■ Randomized trials are required to evaluate interventions to increase a person’s time spent at blood pressure target.

: Agree with u Rakesh , I have heard him so many times in CAD Conferences , but this one talk was simply amazing one .
In fact he likes CAD conferences so much ( He says so many people in hall till 8.30 PM etc )
Plus we could interact with him thro his mail !
Outstanding Orator & Practicality in talk ( Truely we have to admire Dr mardikar for getting him , Dr Gersh , in particular along with other international faculty) !
Next question on Slide 15 that shows a question about the quality of BP control:
" What percent of time in an individual is the BP controlled!"
